The Golden Panda Awards ceremony, in its first edition, an event that will be held every 2 years.
About the event
Organized by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the Sichuan Provincial People’s Government, the Golden Panda Awards is an international cultural award that aims to foster cultural exchanges and create a global community with a shared future with film serves as the medium and panda symbolizes cultural significance.
The Golden Panda Awards is an international competition that recognizes exceptional film and TV works that capture the quintessence of the era, showcase international perspectives, promote universal human values, and evoke emotional connections. Esteemed professtionals with global influence are invited to serve on the international jury. The objective is to foster closer connections between China and the world, enable people to feel China, enhance mutual understanding among people of different countries, and promote the common development of various cultures.
The Golden Panda Awards takes place every two years and is permanently hosted in Sichuan. The first Golden Panda Awards will be held in Chengdu from September 19 to 20, 2023. There will be a total of 25 awards in four categories: Film, TV dramas, Documentary, and Animation. The event will include various activities such as the “Golden Panda Night”, “The First Golden Panda International Cultural Forum”, and the “Golden Panda Awards Ceremony”.

The Golden Panda Awards will be a global event that enhances international exchanges and encourages cross-cultural learning. It will serve as a prestigious audio-visual platform, highlighting excellent film and television productions that embody Chinese aesthetics. Additionally, it will offer a cultural expedition to discover the Land of Abundance while getting close to China’s national treasure, the panda.
China’s giant panda and the world’s Golden Panda Awards, shine together!
The total number of collected works reached 7,024 from 104 countries and regions, including 4,927 foreign works, accounting for 70 percent of the total.
The First Golden Panda Awards will cover four categories: film, TV series, documentaries and animated works.
Jury and nominees
After the preliminary review, a total of 90 works have been nominated, with nearly 60 percent coming from overseas, including British film “The Father,” American TV series “Your Honor,” Indian film “Last Film Show” and Iranian TV series “Yadoo.”
The themes of the nominated works vary from promoting peace and opposing war to preserving traditional culture and environmental protection. Works that could survive the final review will be introduced in the awards ceremony on September 20.
Zhang Yimou, an internationally renowned movie director from China, will be the president of the jury, of which at least 40 percent of the jurors are artists from overseas.
The event will attract numerous global film and television organization representatives, directors, actors and cultural experts. Among them are household names like Jackie Chan, Emmy Award winner Nathan T. Wang and well-known directors from Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and other regions.

The duet song JOIN HANDS – performed by Dimash Qudaibergen and the Chinese singer, mezzo-soprano and professor Wei Wei – was chosen as the anthem for this event.
The audio was released 1 day before the performance – on September 19.

Nathan T. Wang (Wang Tsung-Hsien) is an MA in Film Music at Beijing DeTao Masters Academy (DTMA), a high-level, multidisciplinary and application-oriented higher education institution in Shanghai, China.

Dimash’s duet partner, Wei Wei – nicknamed “The Empress of Pop”, has been widely recognized for her artistry and vocal performances. She has been regarded as one of the greatest Chinese entertainers of her generation, and her contributions to music and visual media have made her a prominent and influential Chinese pop culture figure during the 1990’s and early 2000s.
