A video invitation to global audiences for China Media Group's 2025 Spring Festival Gala was issued on Tuesday (December 3rd) at the 12th Global Video Media Forum (VMF). Themed "Year of the Snake, Keep Your Spirits Awake," the VMF invites global Chinese communities to join the New Year's Eve celebration

On Wednesday, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) added the Spring Festival to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The decision was made during the 19th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The session took place in Paraguay from December 2 to 7.
Recognized by Guinness World Records as the most-watched TV variety show, the gala is a cultural cornerstone for Chinese people globally. This year’s event, following the Spring Festival’s UNESCO World Heritage recognition, will celebrate Chinese culture and welcome the Year of the Snake with vibrant festivities.

The Spring Festival Gala, also known as Chunwan in China, has been a beloved tradition since its first broadcast in 1983. Over the years, it has become famous for bringing families together and showcasing China’s rich culture and creativity. As a result, it continues to be a significant cultural event, celebrated by millions around the world.
243,000 people were watching live on CCTV’s main YouTube channel alone during Dimash Qudaibergen’s moments at the world’s most watched event.
The gala aired on January 28 at 8 p.m. Beijing Time across multiple CMG TV channels, including CCTV-1, CCTV-3, CCTV-4, and special 4K and 8K channels. Additionally, it was available on CMG’s radio stations and online platforms.
This year, CMG introduced new features for viewers with visual or hearing impairments. Visually impaired viewers could listen to the live audio broadcast of the show, while hearing-impaired audiences accessed it through customized features on CMG’s news app and video platforms. These options ensured an inclusive viewing experience for all.

Moreover, the gala was broadcast worldwide through CGTN in English, Spanish, French, Arabic, and Russian, alongside CMG’s media network in 82 languages. As a result, over 2,900 media outlets in more than 200 countries and regions aired or covered the event.
For the first time, CMG partnered with five major global news organizations to promote the gala worldwide. These included the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union, the Arab States Broadcasting Union, the African Union of Broadcasting, the European News Exchange, and the Latin American News Alliance.
